Abstract A test will be performed to verify WFC-assisted target acquisition with the FOS. A WFC picture will be obtained and analyzed at OSS as an INTERACTIVE ACQUISITION for an FOS observation. After uplinking commands to center the object, switch to the FOS and obtain an IMAGE to verify centering. Then reverse the process by acquiring the star with the FOS onboard software, and then switching to the WFC and taking an IMAGE. Scientific Justification. Target acquisition is THE most important task to be verified in SV. Although the WFC-assisted method will not be used frequently, it needs to be tested, since it greatly increases the efficiency of ST when it can be used. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Justification of need for HST observations. Not applicable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. If the WFC --> FOS fails, the star may not be within the FOS 4.3" aperture. For this reason, it is requested that the initial, slew-to pointing be obtained between the WFC --> FOS and FOS --> WFC modes (via FGS guide star reacquisition or equivalent). Comments have been added to the appropriate exposure logsheet lines. SV Prerequisites: Verification of mode II Point Source Binary Search target Acquisition mode (Prop 2195). Minimum/Delta Plan objects: all observations are minimum plan This program may be done in PCS coarse track mode, if necessary. Pointing stability of 10% of smallest aperture (4.3") used - 0.43" is required for FOS observations. Pointing stability of 0.05" is required for WFC observation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. This test is not stray light sensitive. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Data reduction will be performed at the ST ScI, and the analysis will be performed using FOS IDT computer facilities.
