Description of proposed observations. Engineering mode "Photoscan" can be used. An integration time of 10 seconds with 7 bins produces a readout every 70 seconds. 16 of these observations provides 18.7 minutes of dark count data. All deflection are 2048, 2048. Data quality check parameters will be adjusted during SV to minimize the dark count rate. If possible, parallel HSP observations will be made, but this should not restrict the running of frequent GHRS dark counts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. OV-SV Prerequisites HRS-i5 Initial dark noise measurements - Proposal #1407 If possible these observations should be run once per day every day that detector high voltage is on. The exposure log sheet indicates 100 exposures during a nominal 150 day SV program. The precise number, and the intervals between them aare not really critical. Estimated observing time = 100 exposures x 18.6 minutes = 1687 minutes = 31.1 hours. SV Minimum Plan: lines 4-11 SV Delta Plan: lines 14-21 Guiding Tolerance: none - internal test only These are internal tests and do not require any special pointing of the telescope. They do not demand that HRS be prime instrument. It is hoped that HRS can be operated in a parallel mode, allowing these dark count monitors to be run very frequently. There is no carrousel motion. In order to cross-calibrate GHRS dark counts with HSP radiation monitoring, observations with both instruments should be run in in parallel whenever possible, under a variety of orbital conditions. This has been done in response to STScI request for supporting data for the HSP Radiation Monitoring OLT. If scheduling the HSP in parallel presents problems, the HSP darks should be dropped. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7.
