There are 33 observations with 7 substep bins each. The Y deflection line_3: increment is 16 steps (400MUm = 1 diode height) between bins. The integration line_4: is 1 second at each step. The carrousel should be in its SAFE position, and line_5: all lamps should be off. The shutter should be closed. line_7: This observation should be run repeatedly for long periods of time (several line_8: orbits) to monitor dark count as a function of time, during various orbital line_9: environments. line_11: Separate tests should be run for each detector. line_13: All data quality checks which can censor data will be disabled. This will line_14: allow worst-case measurements of all dark count producing events. line_16: The observations will be based on the "default OST" ZSHRTSCNY. ! question: 5 section: 1 line_1: OV-SV Prerequisites line_2: 1. detector focus established - HV Turn-on sequence = proposal #1457 line_3: 2. thresholds determined and loaded - PHA = proposal # 1459 line_5: If parallel operations are possible, it would be useful to correlate line_6: the GHRS dark counts with the HSP monitor OLT. line_8: SV Minimum Plan: lines 9, 10, 12, 13, 1.5 line_9: SV Delta Plan: lines 11, 14 line_10: Guiding Tolerance: none - internal test only ! question: 5 section: 2 line_1: These are internal tests and do not require any special pointing of the line_2: telescope. They do not demand that HRS be prime instrument, unless the line_3: frequent data readouts preclude operating in parallel. line_5: We request six observing runs of one full orbit duration each. It is line_6: not necessary that they be contiguous. The GROUP WITHIN 1 WEEK line_7: requirement will ensure similar detector focus & thresholds. We do line_8: request that the observations on lines 9 and 12 be clean orbits, well line_9: outside the SAA. Lines 10 and 13 should be orbits with maximum SAA line_10: penetration. Lines 11 and 14 may be scheduled for any convenient time. ! question: 6 section: 1 line_1: These observations will result in a readout of 7 bins from the HRS several line_2: times per minute. The operations staff should consider whether HRS can be line_3: operated as a parallel SI and still readout so frequently. It is necessary line_4: that long time sequences of dark count data be obtained in order to investigate line_5: the effects of orbital environments and spacecraft activity on the background line_6: count rates. line_7: It is highly desirable that the HRS not be "idled" during these observations. line_8: We wish to have long baselines of continuous data. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: 1. Compare mean count rates for 500 science diodes, 4 corner diodes, 5 focus line_2: diodes and 2 radiation diodes. line_3: 2. Look for spatial effects (hot spots) on the photocathodes. line_4: 3. Correlate count rates with orbital circumstances. line_5: 4. Look for noise correlated with other activities in HST. line_6: 5. Compare statistics for all size diodes - are mean count rates the same or line_7: are there unusually noisy or quiet channels. line_8: 6. Correlate radiation diode counts to mean counts on science diodes - now line_9: many counts come from photocathode hits vs. diode array and pre-amp hits. line_10: There are no updates to project data bases required. ! question: 10 section: 1 line_1: Data analysis facilities line_2: Personnel line_3: Travel and publications support ! question: 12 section: 1 line_1: There is no Target List with this proposal. line_6: Dark count observations should be run as frequently as possible for as long a line_7: duration as possible. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: BEAVER fname: ED category: CON inst: UCSD addr_1: CASS city: LA JOLLA state: CA country: USA ! lname: CARPENTER fname: KENNETH category: CON inst: NASA/GSFC addr_1: CODE 680 city: GREENBELT state: MD zip: 20771 country: USA phone: 301-286-3453 ! lname: SAVAGE fname: BLAIR category: CON inst: DEPT.
