Abstract The WFC is use to observe the host galaxy around 3C273 and the FOS will be used to measure the rotation of the galaxy. The WFC image is taken a few months early so that positions can be determined for the FOS apertures. a branch is defined so that either an emission-line(3727 A) or an absorption-line region (around 4300 A) can be observed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. (1) A 10 minute WFC exposure for early acquisition.Only CCD number 4 is used and 3C273 is placed on the neutral density spot so the host galaxy can be more earily seen. this can be done blind because very accurate coordinates ave available. The resulting image is sent to the observer who uses it to finalize the positions for the FOS exposures. (2) A 10 minute Fos exposure of a position in the host galaxy to determine whether emission or absorption lines are present. The G400M grating is used to provide moderate resolution from 3200 A to 4700 A. If emission is found in the 3727 line of oxygen, the default path can be with short exposures. Otherwise a branch is made to exposure 4 so an absorption-line velocity can be determined from the longewr exposures. The observation is made three days before exposures 3-5 so that a decision on which branch to use can be made. (3) (default path) A 10 minute exposure of the other side of the host galaxy to measure the emission-line velocity. (4) (branch) A 50 minute exposure at the same location as exposure 2. This exposure will be added to exposure 2, so the relevant time for the S/N calculation (column 12) is 60 minutes. (5) (branch) A 60 minute exposure on the other side of the host galaxy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11.
