Abstract This proposal outlines the test procedure for verifying HSP Mode II target acquisition (on-board) capability for each of the four IDTs on the HSP. Using a stellar source in the CVZ, each IDT will have the target placed in its finding aperture where a small area scan is taken to confirm the location of the star; additional pointing commands will then position the source in a selected aperture. Description of proposed observations. The proposed observations will begin with the first IDT configured in the digital, single aperture mode. After ST is commanded to place the target in the 10.0 arcsec finding aperture (6.0 arcsec for POL(IDT#1)), a 20 x 20 acquisition area scan with 0.5 arcsec steps is performed, integrating for 1 millisec at each point. The HSP flight software will determine the target centroid, calculate the vectors to position the star in a particular aperture, and pass the appropriate commands to the SSM. After the maneuver, a 10 x 10 area scan with 0.1 arcsec steps is performed, integrating for 10 millisec at each point, and the area data stored. This sequence is done for a total of five apertures (in addition to the finding aperture) for each of the four IDTs. A PMT(DET#5) exposure is also taken while using the VIS(IDT#3) IDT. The apertures to be tested for each of the IDTs are: 1) POL(IDT#1): F327M-POLO, F216M-POL90, F277M-POL45, F237M-POL135 and F160LP. 2) UV1(IDT#2): F248M-B, F184W-A, F135W-B, F152M-A AND F278N-B (0.4") 3) VIS(IDT#3): F620W-B,F450W-A,F184W-B,F355M-B,F551W-B (0.4") and PMT. 1) UV2(IDT#4): F145M-B, F278N-A, F179M-B, F184W-B AND F152M-A (0.4") The order of using the IDTs is POL(IDT#1), UV1(IDT#2), VIS(IDT#3), UV2(IDT#4). ST ScI: Default parameters for all ONBOARD ACQ are 20 x 20 steps 0.5 arcsec steps 10 ms integration times acquire brightest object in the field ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. The proposed test will require approximately thirty (30) seconds to complete per IDT. Once the target has been acquired in the finding aperture of the IDT in question, the test should not be interrrupted until the target has been located in the fifth offset aperture. At that time, the test may be interrupted if necessary and the remaining IDTs tested when scheduling permits. The OV HSP MSC tests Phases I - III (1380,1503,1504) are prerequisities for this test. Pointing Stability: Coarse track is understood to have less than 19 marcsec stability. That is satisfactory for all observations in the 10" and 1.0" IDT apertures and the PMT. HSP requires fine lock for all observations in the 0.4" apertures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. The data reduction and analysis consists of examining the telescope/IDT raster images around each aperture position to locate the target. An intensity-weighted centroiding algorithm will be employed to derive the exact deflection coordinates for the target in each of the apertures. These aperture positions will be compared to the positions derived for the same apertures from the previous tests (HSP-01a - 01c) in order to check for any aperture offsets or stretching between apertures or differences in the derived centers of the apertures as determined from a point source compared to an extended source. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. Additional comments or special requests. No need for supporting or coordinate observations with other facilities or additional special requirements are anticipated.
