Abstract A test will be performed to determine if there is any offset in the wavelength scales between internal and external calibration sources. Any derived offsets can be applied to the polynomial fit of pixel number versus wavelength determined from the lines in the internal Pt-Ne lamp. Unresolved lines in a dMe star will be used to determine the FOS + ST Line Spread Function. Description of proposed observations. In this test, we will obtain spectra of external and internal wavelength calibration sources, and compare the resulting channel versus wavelength relationships to search for any offset between the two, and determine the line spread function. The external object will be observed through five (5) apertures. The internal Pt-Ne lamp will be observed through one (1) aperture. A total of one (1) object will be observed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. SV Prerequisites: Verification of mode II Peak-up and Point Source Binary Search target acqusition modes (Prop 2195). Alternate target selection: 1 of the following is to be observed, with the preferences: AU Mic first YZ CMi second Minimum/Delta plan objects: AU Mic/YZ CMi - SV minimum plan Pointing Requirements: Pointing stability of 10% of smallest aperture used (0.3") - 0.03" stability is required. The filter grating wheel must not be moved between the external and internal observations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. We require an internal Pt-Ne lamp observations immediately following each external observation in the 0.3" aperture. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Data reduction will be performed at the STScI, and the analysis will be performed using FOS IDT computer facilities. Any wavelength offsets found between in internal and external sources will need to be added to the PODPS pipeline. Note that no other SV program, or other objects in this program, require that wavelenth offsets be updated in the pipeline before those programs can be executed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10.
