Abstract A test will be performed to verify the binary search target acquisition software of the FOS, as well as the firmware acquisition. The test will first image a faint (V ~ 20) star in the large aperture, and then allow the firmware/software to attempt to center the object. A second image will be obtained to check on the centering, and a prism spectrum will be obtained to be certain the correct object was centered. The test will be repeated to test for repeatability. Description of proposed observations. In this test, we will observed one (1) faint object to verify the functionality of the binary search target acquisiton software of the FOS, as well as the firmware acquisition. We will observe the object in the camera mode to check on its initial position, then let the software/firmware attempt to center the object, and take a second picture to see how accurately it was centered. Finally, a prism spectrum will be obtained to be certain the correct object was centered. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. SV Prerequisites: initial verification of target acquisition software/firmware in Combined Mode II Target Acquisition Tests (Prop 2195) performed at least 14 days prior to this test. Minimum/Delta Plan objects: All observations are SV Minimum plan. Alternate Targets: Firmware: NGC2287-5, NGC6752-WD2, DF-13 Binary Search: PG1115+080, CL4 This activity can be accomplished in PCS Coarse Track Mode, if necessary with pointing stability requirements of 10% of the smallest aperture (1.0") used = 0.1". Note that the initial Binary Search and Firmware observations should be performed within 1 day of each other. Due to the use of alternate targets, implementation of this request in the exposure logsheet was not attempted. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. This test is not stray light sensitive. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Data reduction will be performed at the STScI, and the analysis will be performed using FOS IDT computer facilities.
