Justification of need for HST observations. The objective prism mode of the FOC is the fastest and operationally simplest far-ultraviolet spectroscopic mode available onboard ST. Hence it is ideally suited to carry out a first exploratory survey of the redshift Lyman continuum spectra of the highest redshift quasars. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 13.
