Abstract It is proposed to make observations of 13 low redshift QSO's (0.2 < Z < 0.6) plus 2 higher redshift objects to determine the nature, in particular the morphological type, of the underlying galaxies. Observations in the U and B bands (to accentuate morphological features) of 1800 seconds (3600 seconds for the two more distant QSO's) should enable luminosity profiles to be obtained to radii > 10 kpc at S/N=10. Such a project is not feasible from the ground due to atmospheric seeing which smears out the bright central QSO across the underlying galaxy image. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. We propose to do B imaging of 9 objects in cycle 0. On the basis of cycle 0 results we propose to pick 2 objects and do spectroscopy of them for up to 5 hours where targets and exposures are to be decided within that 5 hours. Cycle 0 observations are exposures Number 5-9, 11-13, and 16. Remainder are in cycle 1 and subsequent cycles. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 12.
