Abstract The CIV lambda1550 resonance line will be observed at medium HRS resolution, at 5 orbital phases, to study the phase dependence of the wind from the system. Low resolution IUE data have shown that a wind is seen in the star, with apparent but unresolved changes in an orbit. A series of four-minute integrations is requested on HR Del at lambda1550. These exposures should all occur within as few orbital cycles as possible to avoid confusion by changes which are not phase related. We request as even as possible spacing in phase of ~0.25, with one overlap phase monitor non-phase-dependent changes. One 5 minute WFC camera image will be taken, presumably adjacent to one of the spectroscopic exposures, with the F492M filter. Observations to be made in Cycle 2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Justification of need for HST observations. ST with HRS is the only way to obtain UV spectra with derived spectral and time resolution. WFC will provide unprecedented spatial reolution of the nebula. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Target orbital phasing is an essential part of the spectroscopic program. Image timing is not important. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. All data will be reduced with DAO equipment and software. The data will cover intervals of ~0.25 in orbital phase, with one repeat, to monitor non-phase related profile changes.
