Abstract A candidate star for the binary pulsar has previously been identified but the precision of the astrometric measurement needs to be improved in order to finally put to rest the question of whether or not this object lies at the radio position. A single 10 minute PC image in the R band will provide the initial data to determine if it is worth using the FGS to get results at the 2 milliarcsec level of precision. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. Description of proposed observations. This exposure should be scheduled in cycle 0. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 12. Note that the region near the binary pulsar should fall entirely into a single PC chip and not be split among 2 or 3. Thus the pointing requirements are not crucial within this constraint. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 13. WFPC images of the binary pulsar PSR1913+16 will provide deeper images and allow more precise astrometry than currently available. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11.
