Abstract The goal of this project is to determine trigonometric parall Hyades cluster members and to define the Population I zero ag The ZAMS is used to determine the distances to open clusters the zero point of the Cepheid Period-Luminosity relationship, fundamental distance indicator in the universe. A secondary g project is to search for new Hyades cluster members which mig the 25th magnitude, or M(v)=22. This part of the project will through coordinated parallel observations with the WFC to det motions of very faint stars over a one year base line. Justification of need for HST observations. Ground-based parallaxes are in the best cases limited to an a arcsec, which is some 4 times poorer than the projected accur Based on this accuracy, we would have to determine parallaxes stars in the Hyades in order to determine the distance modulu This is not really possible since the total stellar content o also about 350 and many of the stars are too bright to observ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Parallax observations must be made during the times when the at a maximum in order to achieve the highest possible accurac The time tolerance of +/- 21 days in the observation dates is maximum level that is acceptable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. All of the FGS observations must be uninterrupted in order to effects of thermal drifts in the ST structure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. The data reduction will be done with the Astrometric Data Red developed by the Astrometry Team on computational facilities at the home institutions of the Team members. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10. Resources to be supplied by investigator's institution(s). Computational facilities and the ADRS software package. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 12. In order to obtain the highest possible accuracy, it is neces a purely differential manner. In the case of the FGS, this me target field should always be placed in precisely the same pa pickle. In this case we are most concerned with local errors distortion and encoders. These errors can be minimized if we keep our measurements as differential as possible. To accompl orient the ST at the same roll angle for each observation at and 180 degrees from that angle for epochs 2 and 4. Since eac will take about 10 minutes, it is possible to complete all of observations for one epoch during one orbit.
